Pak Afghan War Escalates: Pakistan Strikes Taliban Positions After Drone Incursion in Gulistan

Pakistani security forces repelled a cross-border aggression attempt from Afghanistan in the Gulistan sector on Friday. Killing several Afghan Taliban personnel in retaliatory fire. The clash followed Pakistani precision strikes on 10 Afghan military locations a day earlier. Marking a sharp escalation in the Pak Afghan war along the western border.

Security sources confirmed that Afghan Taliban personnel attempted to breach Pakistani territory in the Gulistan sector before being met with swift retaliatory action. Intermittent firing between the two sides was still ongoing as of Friday. With security forces maintaining full alert across the border region.

What Triggered the Afghan Pak War Escalation

The latest exchange traces back to a drone incursion into Pakistani airspace. Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Attaullah Tarar said Pakistan’s air defence systems detected, tracked and neutralised eight drones launched from Afghan territory before they could strike their intended targets.

In response, Pakistan carried out precision aerial and drone strikes against 10 locations inside Afghanistan. Tarar said these sites were used for launching and storing the drones involved in the incursion.

“Islamabad had exercised its right to self-defence in response,” Tarar said, describing the drone incursion as a deliberate and unlawful violation of Pakistan’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.

Attaullah Tarar Defends Strikes as Calibrated Response

According to the minister, the strikes were deliberate, precise and proportionate. He said they were limited strictly to military objectives directly tied to the attempted attacks on Pakistan, not broader targets inside Afghan territory.

Tarar said Pakistan had repeatedly raised concerns with the Afghan Taliban regime and its interlocutors over terrorist sanctuaries and support networks operating from Afghan soil. Instead of dismantling these networks, he said, Taliban authorities escalated the situation through hostile drone operations.

Afghan Taliban Foreign Minister Faces Pressure Over Terror Networks

While the statement did not name the Afghan Taliban foreign minister directly. Tarar’s remarks placed responsibility squarely on the Taliban regime’s leadership for failing to act against groups operating from its territory. He called on Kabul to immediately halt all hostile activity against Pakistan.

“Pakistan will neither accept nor tolerate attacks launched from Afghan territory, whether by terrorist groups or by the Afghan Taliban regime itself,” Tarar said.

He urged Afghan authorities to take effective, concrete and verifiable action against terrorist entities based on Afghan soil. And to fulfil their international obligations in doing so.

Pakistan Signals Firm Stance Going Forward

Tarar said any future violation of Pakistan’s sovereignty would draw an immediate and decisive response. He added that threats, denials or attempts to deflect blame would not change the facts on the ground or limit Pakistan’s right to defend its territory.

Despite the sharp rhetoric, Tarar said Pakistan does not seek escalation. He reaffirmed the country’s commitment to regional peace, dialogue and constructive engagement with Kabul.

He was clear, however, that this commitment should not be read as weakness. “Pakistan will defend its sovereignty, territorial integrity and the lives of its citizens with full resolve,” he said, warning that any further provocation by the Afghan Taliban would be met with a firm and resolute response.

As of Friday, clashes in the Gulistan sector continued, with both sides on high alert along the contested frontier.
